How Woofstops works
We only list a place when a source clearly says dogs are welcome. A water bowl by the door is not enough. For each place we note where your dog can sit, if the source says so: on the patio, inside or at the bar. We also flag the places with a dog menu.
Rules change, and they often cover only part of a place. A restaurant may take dogs on the patio but not inside, or only on weekdays. If it matters, call before you go. Read more about how we build the list.
San Francisco
San Francisco has dog-friendly restaurants and bars, cafés and dog parks and off-leash beaches such as Fort Funston, Ocean Beach and Crissy Field.
San Diego and the Bay Area
Our newest cities. San Diego has brewery patios, beach towns and off-leash dog beaches in Ocean Beach, on Fiesta Island, in Coronado and in Del Mar. Across the bay from San Francisco, Oakland and Berkeley have beer gardens, fenced dog parks and off-leash trails in the East Bay hills, and San Jose covers the South Bay from Willow Glen and Campbell to Mountain View. Around Los Angeles, Santa Monica, West Hollywood, Pasadena and Long Beach now have their own pages.
Seattle, Portland, Denver and Austin
Seattle has taverns and breweries that let dogs inside and 14 city off-leash areas. Portland has brewpubs, food cart pods and more than 30 off-leash areas. Denver has patios, beer gardens and big off-leash areas in the state parks, and Austin has beer gardens, dog bars and swimming spots for dogs like Red Bud Isle.

How do you know a place is dog-friendly?
Every listing links to at least one source, such as a guide or the place's own website, that says dogs are welcome. We leave out places where the source is unclear or too old.
Can I suggest a place?
Yes. Tell us the name, the address and a link that shows dogs are welcome, and we will check it before adding it.
